Do you use dialup, DSL, Cable or Fios? What I stated earlier applieds to all but dialup is subject to the particular standard phone circuit or line you randomly get at any given time, when you dial a number. The others types of connections are considered "Alway active or On". They also have their issues but dialup is unique!
Yesterday I started my weekly Gedcom download of my online ancestry tree. The download stablized at a spped of 74.1kps (Kilobytes per seond). I usually average 239kps with Earthlink/Covad DSL. I had an appointment and needed to get some where and aborted the download. I tried again a few hours later and got between 275kps down to 245Kps. I started to notice these slowdowns whenever ancestry does enhancements. Once you connect to any site most slowdowns occur when the bandwidth or amount of traffic ecxceeds the servers ability to handle the traffic. If slow downs seem to occur from all sites it usually means the usage is exceeding the bandwidth or the Internet circuits are very busy.
Try your download again and look at the speed of your downloads by clicking on the details. BTW, that 10mins time refers to the speed of your download at a "Theoretical" 28.8kps modem speed.
