Virginia records are voluminous, you might want to take a look at the Library of Vlirignia website, which gives you information on the types of records that are available: birth, deaths, marriages, wills, deeds, court records in general, and then specific by county.

You mentioned Fauquier County VA there is an AA Historical Society there.

You will have to research John Martin, because he is the one that will be generating records prior to the sale, and hopefully including information about your family, and hopefully these records survive.
