[NC] Barnes & Blackshear

Subject: Barnes and Blackshear

I am a member of CAAGS and know Alva. I have connected to the Tues. nite chat session on several ocassions.

Cager Barnes married Darcus (Dorcas). Records indicate that he was born in Alabama in 1802 and she in 1805, however, I realize Ala did not become a state until about 1819. So it could have been Mississippi territory.
They had the following children: Harriet Barnes, Martha Barnes, Sanford Barnes and Victoria Barnes. According to the census for 1870, there were several Barnes listed, including another Cager Barnes. Also, these childern I named ranged in ages from 8 years to 16years. Therefore, I am certain he had other children before these left at home. Another Barnes family included a Farris Barnes who married Callie Nickles. They resided in Montgormey Co. Alabama. (Strata, Ramer, La Pine).

Abram Blackshear married Amanda Holland in Montgomery Co. Alabama. I am only aware of 2 children, altho, I believe there were others. William Blackshear who married Margaret "Janie" Tresevant, They had two children: Beatrice Blackshear and Phoecion Blackshear. William Blackshear moved to Washington D.C. and divorced Janie. I have not been able to find any other info on William Blackshear. I was told he worked in the White House with President Theodore Roosevelt, and Edward L. Blackshear who married Rachel Works. They
had three children: William Abram Blackshear, Theodore Roosevelt Blackshear and Eddie Blackshear. They lived in Waller Co. Texas. Edward L. Blackshear was President of Prairie View College for about 20 years. There are several Blackshear's in Texas, however, I do not know the relationship. Additonally, there are several Blackshears in Florida.
