[MS] Need MS Afro Amer. Geneal Soc.

This has been tried at least 2 times before, and has not been able to organize. So many of us have roots that started there through slavery. I have gone on my own in the past, to do onsite research at the court house in the community where my people lived. Found so much info that was not on the internet. Forming a genealogy society is hard work and the officers involved have to be dedicated people. There's something about MS that seems to block any formation. Has anyone noticed, no Genealogy Society of any ethnic organization host any conf/workshops there? I know many of us who do not live there, have said we would happily be pd members. MS -- why is it still so 'isolated' if you know what I mean. Is there even a family History Library there? From what I have been able to find out, most of the societies there are focused on the CIVIL WAR, old historical buildings and activities that glorified the good old days. Minority Labor built all of those historical sites. One lady wrote 'We walk on the bones of our ancestors.' When I traveled there I thought about that AND when I looked at the trees, I wondered how many were still standing where black people were hung. It's time to change for the better. I have extended family still living around the area. But even they seem to have a problem doing research. I don't want to cause any problems for anyone. I am just Wondering..WHY NOT? :\
