[GA] multilateral initiative on malaria - participation

Re: Is there regional bias and lack of cultural sensitivity from those who are responsible for the Multilateral Initiative on Malaria?

There is a lack of clarity regarding the work of the Multilateral Initiative on Malaria and restricted opportunities for global participation from: investigators, researchers and scientists at Historically Black Colleges. The protocols of MIM appear to exclude all Americans without consideration for those who are of African descent. Africans
on the Continent share many disparities with people having a common lineage in the United States. Diabetes and HIV are select examples of health disparities.

There is further concern that such a situation exists because two MIMCom partners are from the United States. The partners are the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the National Library of Medicine.

The matter merits clarification at the earliest.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

I.M. Spence-Lewis M.D.
