Re: [Nationwide] TOWNSHIPS-1940 Census
In Response To: [Nationwide] TOWNSHIPS-1940 Census ()
I lived in a small rural community, neither city nor town. When I was getting myself ready to search for my folks in 1940, to narrow down the search area, I had to play it out in my head. My choices were "Were we east of the railroad tracks or were we west of the tracks?" Mind you, we were not even close to being in sight of the tracks, so I had to think about it since I have not lived there since 1961, though I visit about every 2 years ..... Oh yes, in 1940 we were EAST of the tracks...My family was at least a half-mile from the track, likely more; others were closer, but still quite a way from the track. The community is now west of the tracks due to a move in 1952 to facilitate the building of a factory in the area.
