Thanks for the reply and info, but I do understand New York is not indexed yet for the 1940 census.

That, however, is not the issue, I have found family in NY browsing the census, the problem Robert and I are having is not being able to get actual records from New York, such as birth, death, marriage records.

Since 9/11 happened, New York has set up strict rules on obtaining vital records, I sent for my grandmother's BC to one place and they told me to go to the another place (where she was born), I sent for it there and they told me to go back to the place I had already sent the first time.

I have only been able to get death certificates for my grandmother's parents, I cannot even get the marriage license for my great grandfather's second marriage.

But I have been told that due to 9/11 there have been restrictions on obtaining personal information.
