Re: [LA] Claiborne Parish Vitals ?

Stop the press!

Charlotte Nelson-Thomas born 1843 in Alabama; raised in Claiborne Parish Louisiana, wife of Hawkins Thomas; they were the parents of 17 children; Nelly, Monroe, Vina, Miverva, Anner, Alice, Marian, Della, Hosa, Lucy, Zeola, Coleman, Bula, Tim, Tony, Noda, and Moses.

Charlotte was the sister to my great great great grandmother, Amanda Nelson-Reed.

Their parents were John and Charlotte Nelson.

Our oral history maintained that "Aunt Charlotte had a whole crowd of children". Some of my Reed cousins maintained communication when some of Aunt Charlotte's children and grandchildren moved to the Shreveport area.

Also, through oral history, John Nelson was either from the Gold Coast or a descendant of someone from the Gold Coast. We have found that the nicknames given to Amanda's daughters reflect words (variations) in the Fante language. This is still a work in progress, however with names such as Itha, Sankona, Arrie, and Bantie, you have to wonder about the origin.

I have a copy of aunt Charlotte's death certificate that lists her father as John Nelson, which at least confirms a portion of our oral history. The informant was Hosie Thomas.

Are we talking about the same Charlotte?
