During the 1930s thru 1940s, workers in the federal WPA program transcribed the handwritten minutes of the Tennessee Courts. Mountain Press Publishing Co. has bound the 1823-1824 minutes of the Montgomery County, Tennessee Courts in a book that is available to the public and it includes mention of the free status of some blacks at that time.
