documents are at risk of theft, loss or destruction by bugs, rats and weather, according to a report released Wednesday.
Issued by the Texas Court Records Preservation Task Force, the report studied document preservation in the state’s 254 counties. Storage conditions range from excellent to abysmal, despite most county officials’ good intentions, the group said.
“The majority are passionate about their records and the need to do more to preserve these documents,” the report said of county and district clerks.
The volunteer task force, appointed in 2009 by the Texas Supreme Court, surveyed district and county clerks and visited courthouses.
