Re: [OH] Ohio research
In Response To: [OH] Ohio research ()
Thanks for the reminder on "The Communiy Within", it brings back pleasant memories.
In 1993 cousins Sheila Jean Farmer Clay, Nedra Ann Walker Gordon and I took a trip to Kenyon College in Gambier, Knox County, Ohio to visit Prof. Howard Sacks. Prof. Sacks was the 'driving force' behind the research and production of the Community Within project on the African American community of Knox County, Ohio.
Using The Community Within as the guide Sheila Jean Farmer Clay lead us in the research and publication of Black Legacy: African-Americans of Champaign County, Ohio which was published in 1996. (LCN 95-92040) Black Legacy chronicles the presence and history of African-American individuals and families in Champaign County, Ohio with a dateline of Mar. 1, 1803 thru June 16, 1995.
Nedra and Sheila are now with the Ancestors, but the trip to Kenyon College, The Community Within and Black Legacy provide some unforgettable memories.
An FYI, Robert Goins of California and a frequent poster on AfriGeneas has strong Mt. Vernon and Knox County, Ohio family connections.
