Re: [Nationwide] Migration & More
In Response To: [Nationwide] Migration & More ()
A great site for determining the parent county for your current county, or the counties from where your ancestors may have originated and a look at 'in-state' migrations. Click Roataing County Boundry Maps Link.
Example, a 3rd great-grandfather was documented as being born near Louisville, KY in 1785. Following the county formation for KY reveals his birth area in 1776 was known as Kentucky County, VA .... 1785, his birth year it was Jefferson County, KY. In 1813, the year he was manumitted the area was Shelby County, KY. In 1838, the year his former slaveowner died and his Will probated the area was Oldham County, KY. The location for these events all occured on the same plot of land, but the county name where this land was located changed.
So, when you see a change of County (location) within a given State for your ancestors, did a physical move actually occur? Check out your State/County.
