After viewing your wonderful recitation of your family's migration patterns, I realized that I was remiss in failing to point out that the recounting of my mother's maternal family's early (1800-1840) migration pattern was based on data culled from the Virginia (Mecklenburg, Grayson and Henry counties) personal property tax records, Virginia and
Tennessee free person records (in 1850 they also appeared on the Indiana Free Negro Registry for Gibson County), and the VA, TN and IND Court and Census records (including the Agricultural schedules). After settling Indiana's oldest black community, Lyles Station, my mother's maternal family remained there another 100 years.
