Re: [AR] Little Rock, Arkansas Research Trip
In Response To: [AR] Little Rock, Arkansas Research Trip ()
Tim Pinnick posted some information about a AAHGS.org possibly having a conference there. I attended the first one they had in Ark. I strongly suggest you hook up with them and join for that year. Usually their conference are held in different cities from Thur. to Sat. in October. It can really get hot in the south in the summer month's. The hotels are very nice and members get a discount if booked through the Society. The one I went to in Arkansas, I didn't have the knowledge to ask the hotel if I could get the same price if I come in 2 days earlier than when everything starts. They did so.Room prices are the same for double or singles. I do so now whenever I travel to workshops. This gives me time to get the lay of the land, do some exploring on my own and if I decide to, maybe do research at the Archives, maybe skip some of the events that may not be important to me. I don't advise this because they do host awesome banquets most of the time and side tours. This is always a way of doing a little discounted travel. At that time travelers were given a discount from the airlines. (Also according to the city, the society has tours added on at a seperate cost for members.) But since airlines are trying to get every little penny out of travelers, that's probably not an option.
