Re: [OH] Toledo Funeral Records, article

Thanks for the link to a wonderful article which reflects an interesting connection and shows just how small the world really is. The Clarence & Genevieve Dale in the article are natives of Urbana, Ohio and were contemporaries of my mother during their childhood years. .

In 1996 with a cousin and fellow genealogist, Shelia Farmer Clay, we collaborated on a book "BLACK LEGACY: AFRICAN AMERICANS of CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, OHIO" .... LCCCN 95-92040. On pages 150-151 are biographical sketches submitted by Clarence J. "Jack" Dale and his wife, Genevieve Allen Dale.

An excerpt from the bio's written by Clarence & Genevieve:
CLARENCE J. DALE (affecetionately known as Jack) was born September 15, 1915 in Urbana, Ohio the son of Walter and Tina Jackson Dale. He was a graduate of Urbana High School attended Urbana Junior college and graduated from Cleveland College of Mortuary Science. He recevied his funeral director's and embalmer's license in 1938. He located in Toledo, Ohio in 1939, where he was employed by the Easley Funeral Home. In 1946 he purchased the Wanzo Mortuary, which was the oldest black owned and operated funeral home in the city of Toledo. In 1963 the Dale Funeral Home became incorporated, with Mr. Dale as President.

GENEVIEVE ALLEN DALE was born in Urbana, Ohio May 17, 1915 the daughter of Harry and Clara Belle Guy Allen. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1933 and was the validictorian of her class. She attended Urbana Jnior college and after graduation she was employed as a deputy in the office of Champaign County Auditor Earl D. Sexton until her marriage to Clarence J. Dale in 1940.

What a pleasure it was to read of Mr. & Mrs. Dale and the operation of their Funeral Home in Toledo, Ohio. Wishing all success to the Dale-Riggs Funeral Home in their efforts to make their records available to the community.
