Re: [NC] African-American Craven County, NC Marria

I am little interested in your Bryants/Bryans Rodney.

My 3rd great grandmother (born between 1842 and 1845) had the last name Bryant, I am not sure of her place of birth, census from 1870-1920 says South Carolina. The 1930 census for her son lists her birth as Virginia. This same son puts Virginia on the death certificate of her firstborn son; the firstborn also used the name Bryant.

I am wondering if my 3rd great grandmother was in (Newbern) Craven County, NC during slavery. Because my 3rd great grandfather was born in Newbern, NC (abt 1839) and was either taken or moved to Charleston Co. South Carolina.

I wonder if she was born in VA, taken down to or sold to a slave owner in Craven County, and at some point went to South Carolina.

All the kids, even her oldest who is not the son of my 3rd great grandfather, was listed as born in South Carolina.

I know your's moved to LA, but hoping to maybe find a connection somewhere.

My 3rd great grandfather was a Hawkins, his mother had the last name Jones.
