[AR] Looking For Grandma's Family - JONES
My paternal grandmother was Hannah JONES. I am still searching for her parents. She was born in Chicot County, Arkansas in 1881, which means that she missed the 1880 census. The 1890 is largely missing. By 1900 she was married so I haven't found her with her parents. She married three times, and all three husbands were from Clark County, Arkansas.
I recently found her first marriage on the beta site of FamilySearch.org. She was married in Jan 1897 to Moses Stoutenburg in the next-door county, Desha County, AR. I had earlier found them together in the 1900 census in Coahoma County, Mississippi. They apparently lived in Mississippi for some time as their oldest daughter was born there.
Their eldest child was a son, James, born in 1899, not with them in the census, and I have not yet found him in the 1900 census, hoping to find him with his grandparents.... But he's still around for the 1910 census which is where I first heard of him.
Moses apparently died about 1904, at least Grandma remarried in 1904, to J H Stroope, in Garland County, Arkansas. That marriage produced a daughter and ended in divorce.
In 1907 she married my grandfather and they had four children together, my father the youngest. Her son, James, is listed with her in the 1910 census. She died when my father was about a year old. James is not listed as beneficiary of her insurance policy, so I assume he had died earlier. My father's elder siblings moved away so he did not have much in the way of oral history about her. Those older siblings died before I began researching so Grandma Hannah has been my thorn.
One aunt who was a couple of years older than my father and lived nearby, remembered that there was said to be a sister named/called Fannie, who had a son named Willie Payne.
That's it for what I know.
