[NC] A strange case from Rowan County

Let me explain first. Morgan or Gold Hill are townships in Rowan County, they are usually about 20 miles from the county seat of Salisbury. Anyway, many of my relatives/ancestors come from Morgan. My grandfather was John House born about 1860 and died in or about1912. After his death, my grandmother Martha Crowell House remarried to a Stokes Ingram. No one ever really knew what happened to John House or how he died, and today with everyone gone, there is no one to really say anything about it. Recently I found an article in the N.C. death 1909to1975. One death certificate fins a mysterious "Negro about 50 born about 1860s, having died in Dec. 1913, in Morgan township". Something weird about it. Something tells me that this may be the John House I am looking for. A cold case for sure. I need to really investigate it. Any solutions?
Joseph
