I tried using this site and in my confusion I did not find anything for my search, but that doesn't mean anyone else won't be able to. I had the oppurtunity to do on site research at the Columbia SC Archives. One note, if you travel there, you must have your own vehicle. I was there 5 days. I am a member of the Old Edgefield Afro Amer Historical society and as a member I get a news quarterly publication from this society, plus the society that publishes the Quill. It pays to join a Historical Society in the state of interest. There are a lot of perks that become available to members. All participants got a discount at the hotel for this particular workshop, Courtyard Marriott and free breakfast for 2 days. There are other hotels across the highway and eateries(Cracker Barrel, Wendies, Waffle House, Bo Jangles). But if you decide to walk to the Archives, it is a little bit of a walk, especially in the hot weather, if you stay in the closest hotels nearby, no public transportation is available that I ever saw.
I found information for ancestor's, after about a 4 day search in the Conveyance Court records, that was a gold mine. You had to order copies at the SC Archives on the spot and they would either mail them to you or you could come back and pick them up. Cost was nominal. On site research is not always a option, but there are books and information for all the counties available. One or 2 days might not be enough, once you get on the hunt.
