I was in NC from 2003 to 2007 and I researched my husbands family who's surname is Martin. I visited the Winstom Salem library where there is a lot of black history about the people in WS. I have a news paper article of the first black person to be buried in Evergreen and it was his great aunt. While I was in NC i met a Mrs Jones who first husband was a Hairston from WS. I also have a copy of marriages in Stokes Co where is see a lot of Hairstons if you would like me to do some look ups I will be happy to do so. My books are from 1839-1900. For me NC history was the easy one of the family. The other parts of my family is from Maryland which I have been having a very HARD time with.
