I recently discovered that my Smith ancestors in Dallas Co. AL were freed by their owner Baxter Smith in about 1825. I'm looking to locate resources about free African-Americans in Alabama. Can anyone assist in referring me to any books, videos, research about this issue? Or anyone else who may be researching this subject. Your help is greatly appreciated.
