Re: [IL] Alfred Prior
In Response To: [IL] Alfred Prior ()
Hi Betty, This is intersting for me. I have been looking at slaveholders from the Natchez Distrct who had plantations in Mississippi and Louisiana and moved to Chicot County, Arkansas. Grand Lake, Arkansas is located in Chicot County, Arkansas. 3 miles southest of Grand Lake is near the Mississippi River and the Arkansas/Mississippi border just above the Louisiana line. The 1850 Census lists (according to the spelling by transcribers):
Richard Pryor of Monroe, Lafayette Co., AR has a 6 year old male slave listed among his slaves on the 1850 Census. The 1840 Census lists (according to the spelling by transcribers):
I didn't check the 1840 Census to see which of the Prior/Pryor names listed above had slaves. I can check if you have time. I hope this helps. My mother was born in AR after the family moved there from Louisiana. Ed Adams
