This was their first time presenting it. There were a number of people in attendance who are descendants of the people actually involved in the case. There were a lot of people there who grew up in the small town or on a farm nearby. I talked with a lot of them.

I have read a lot of books about Abraham Lincoln over my 70 years and was aware of this case. I didn't know the details and only became interested in the Bryant family after learning that I have Bryants born in Kentucky on my tree.

I have made several trips to the area over the years and stayed in Mattoon and in Charleston. Two of the daughters graduated from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. One daughter lives there and we visit three to four times a year.
