My father was a Surgeon in LA in the 60's.

Black doctors were slowly getting a chance to be on staff at major hospitals.

My father had patients at Temple Hospital,Queen of Angels, University(served mainly African Americans.)
Temple and Queens were the biggest but they were not Teaching Hospitals like Martin Luther King.

There was a major organization for African American doctors and theirfamilies -- it was called " The Medical/Dental and Pharma or Med/Dent.

There were probably about 60 families in that group and they would give Picnics and Parties that were wonderful.. We were one big family in those days and formed lasting friendships.

There was,is still, a group called the Charles Drew Medical Association, they have an Auxilary. My Mother is their oldest living past President.

I attended the meeting last year and they honored my mother. They had on display many scrapebooks from years past.
