AfriGeneas States Research Forum

[SC] SC Columbia Research trip

I have been on some group trips and wondered just what the coordinator was thinking about. Luckily that has been only a small number. So now in 2009 I and doing a schedule of transportation-Amtrak, hotel, car rental and getting to and from the archives in 2010. The month to travel is really open-but it won't be in the summer or dead of winter. Discounts, Discounts, who what where. I've got the age discount covered..what else is out there?

What I would like to know is the 'little' things I should be aware of. Since my time is flexible I am trying to time this when by train I will get there on a sunday, pick up a car and be fresh and ready to tackle whatever may be there, during the week.

I have pencils, papers, am writing a 'Things to do List' for archive research and counting these pennies. I do not want to fly, so AMTRAK will be it all the way.

Since I will be doing some driving in the city, WHERE is a black owned and operated restaurant located. WHAT areas do I stay out of. The best place to shop--I will have a room with a small refrigerator and what is there in the Archives should I focus on. I went to the Mississippi archives, almost forgot to eat cause I found some 'good stuff', and didn't have a clue where to go and sit back and be with my peoples. So this time I am really trying to get things scoped out.

And I am doing an estimate on MONEY I will Need.

Y'all hook me up. This is going to be a vacation as well as research plus have some fun. ;)
