Re: [SC] Pinckney and Betty Adger/Lawson

8) I am looking for Pinckney also but as the last name with the same spelling. I had to realize burials were expensive for black people. In my family within 24 hours of death there was a burial..no money to embalm. Maybe there was a graveside funeral but no gravestones that would last many years..again no money. A tree, a stone, whatever they could use to memorize a grave site, until the last person who remembered the deceased passed on. My people also lived in Johnston Sc up until, I know 1930. Many were buried at Mt Nebo Cemetery, where 'colored people' were allowed to bury family. Gravesties are important to us researchers, but remembering the names are even more important. Even today a simple gravestone is expensive. So REMEMBER THE NAMES in writing. :O
