[OH] Inducted to Ohio Genealogical Society groups
At the recent Ohio Genealogical Society Conference (2-4 Apr) held in Huron, Ohio AAGGMV member Irita (Goins) Canady was inducted into two (2) of the Ohio Genealogical Society lineage groups, The First Families of Ohio and The Settlers and Builders of Ohio.
Membership requirements are proof of direct lineage to an ancestor(s) who resided in Ohio prior to 1820 for FFO and between 1821 & 1851 for SBO.
For the FFO membership Irita proved her relationship and the presence of ancestor James Stephens/Stevens in Washington County, Ohio with a date of 1792. This date is prior to Statehood for Ohio and along with her FFO certificate and pin Irita also received the "special" pin for those whose ancestor's were in the area that became Ohio prior to 1803.
For her Settlers and Builder's of Ohio award and certificate (1821-1851) Irita proved direct descent from Michael & Martha (Flecther) Stephens (1834) and James W. & Mary Ellen (Mayle) Stephens (1841)
Although Irita wasn't able to attend the SBO Luncheon held on 3 Apr she was present at the FFO Banquet held Saturday Night 4 Apr to receive her award. Attending the banquet in support of Irita were cousin "Polly" (Stevens) Flowers, Polly's granddaughter Alicia Dickenson and cousin Alice Kaye (Holbert) Peaks.
Irita, you make your family, ancestors and fellow AAGGMV members quite proud of your research and in particular your documentation and perservation of that research through your membership into the Ohio Genealogical Society's lineage societies
The Ohio Genealogical Society conference is the largest State genealogy conference in the nation and this year there were just under 600 "registered" attendees.
