[SC] Archives Research
For at least 4 years I've been trying to figure out the most economical way to travel to the SC Archives to do on site research. When I went to Monroe Ms. it was like the ancestors were looking out for me and many of you told me about a Bed and Breakfast to stay at and the research facilities to check. I found it to very helpful. Well I followed all advice and can now use some help for SC. When I looked at the distance between the archives, transportation and eateries..I know I will need to fly in on a sunday, start my research on Monday and stay until saturday Morning. Now this was 4 years ago when I did all of this and I just wasn't able to tackle this. Things change and people who have done this may have some new tips So this is what I KNOW I will need.
A clean safe hotel close to the archives with a restaurant. I am really looking for Black owned and operated.
I will be researching the great grandma's info that was born and lived in Shaws Creek now known as Johnston SC.
I am trying to find out if there could still be descendants of Lucy Vance, Elbert Vance, Henrietta Pinckney and her grandchildren so I know the city directories are a must.
After 1930 I don't know what name changes the children of thses surnames took because most of them are women. There doesn't seem to be any online info as to what the names of the sons children could be or their gender. I guess it all sounds confusing as you read this but my grgrandma Lucy Vance was found on the Monroe Co. Ms 1900 census with 2 of her daughters and the baby girl was my grandma Adell Vance. No one ever talked about grgrandma Lucy was from SC until I found her on the 1930 census and that is where I found and traced her back. I need to get to these archives. Can somebody help me make a plan?
