[OK] President Obama's Oklahoma Family

The ancestors of our 44th President, Barack Hussein Obama, migrated from Kansas to Oklahoma in 1889 when Oklahoma opened up as a Territory.

The nations first black President has four (4) great grandparents buried in Indian Nation, Oklahoma Territory.

Shirley Ann Dunham, born Nov. 27, 1942 was the mother of our 44th President, Barack Hussein Obama. She was the the great-great grand-daughter of Jacob Mackey Dunham, born May 7, 1824. A born Virginian who migrated to Tipton County, Indiana and re-settled in Oklahoma during the landrun of 1889. Jacob Mackey Dunham died June 12, 1907 and is buried in Creek Nation, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. His wife was Louisa Eliza Stroup, she died Oct. 26, 1901, and is buried in Welston, Lincoln County, Oklahoma.

Madelyn Lee Payne, born Oct. 26, 1922 and died Nov. 2, 2008 was the
grandmother of our first black President, Barack Hussein Obama. She was the grand-daughter of Thomas Creekmore McCurry, who was from Kansas. He migrated to Oklahoma were he died July 19, 1939 and is buried Talala, Rogers County, Oklahoma. He had several sons who lived and died in Creek Nation, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. His daughter, Leona Belle McCurry was the mother of Madelyn Lee Payne.
