Very often the districts change from census year to census year. So, what is Beat 14 in 1880 may not necessarily be Beat 14 in 1870. Sometimes when I can not find the family, I search for the children, or search for the neighbors that you saw in 1880. A lot of times in the 1870 census first initials were used. Try using wild card searches.
