I am the County Coordinator for Jennings County INGenWeb and while entering Cemetery information came across a small note on the "Poor Farm"
Cemetery from a transcription done in 1973 which mentions a David R. Penn.(Black) It is confusing as the ages do not match but I followed the hints and found in the 1880 census of Bigger Township a Black family headed by John Penn who had a son David who is mentioned as having Epelipsy. The note on the Cemetery record says David had a long standing genealogical condition? The census has a number of interesting things on this family. John W. Penn age 42 born Kentucky, his wife Levena age 35 born Ohio, the three oldest children listed William age 18, John W. age 15 and Leonard age 12 were born Canada. There is a fascinating story there I am sure, the next child Charles E. born Ohio and the next three children born Indiana David R. age 8, Henry S. age age 6 and Mary E. age 3. Listed living with the family is Mary McCalfrey-mother in law age 62 born Indiana. I would like to find more information on this family for the Jennings County site. Is there anyone out there who is researching a family that might connect to them?
