Hello, I'm producing a television show called Black History California, and I came across a book that told a sentence of a black cook that had went awol from a ship of some voyager or discoverer (I thought it was Juan Cabrillo who discovered San Diego). Anyway, this black cook was said to have been the first black to set foot either on California or San Diego soil. I cannot remember what the book was. Can you recall any accounts of the same passage? I thought trhe book was Negro Trailblazers of California or History of San Diego.
