[AL] Genealogy Program - Oct 18, 2008 - Livingston, AL
Please join us on Saturday, October 18, 2008, for the Black Belt African American Genealogical and Historical Society's quarterly program. Livingston Fire Chief Terry Peeler will give a presentation on his journey to trace the African American Peeler family of Waterford, Miss., to the Peeler and Currie plantations in Gaffney, SC. Through research and serendipity, Mr. Peeler was able to document his slave ancestry and to travel to Gaffney, SC to meet Leonard Peeler, a descendant of the slave owning Peeler family. Mr. Peeler’s presentation will be followed by a reception and a presentation by Elvin Lang, Vice President of the Black Belt African American Genealogical and Historical Society, who will discuss the Alabama African American Heritage Book project.
