Johnny Curry, Special Projects Coordinator for The American Village in Montevallo, will speak to the Autauga Genealogical Society about the on-going programs at the nationally recognized civic education institution.
Mr. Curry notes that, "October 19th is one of the most significant days in American history as it was on that day that Lord Charles Cornwallis surrendered to General Washington at Yorktown, effectively ending The American Revolution." He also notes that this coming year will be historic for The American Village as it will celebrate its 10th anniversary.
This year will see the completion of several new projects including the building of a near-replica of the famous Old North Bridge. It was that bridge where "the shot heard 'round the world" was fired to signal the beginning of The American Revolution. The American Village is a not-for-profit institution that serves over 40,000 visitors each year promoting the teaching of American history and the founding of our Republic.
