Re: [SC] Willis & Sarah FELPS
In Response To: [SC] Willis & Sarah FELPS ()

On July 13, 2008, I posted a response to you on the Surnames Forum. This is part of that response: "...If Ben was a sibling or relative of Herbert's, this looks like the family in 1880 in Hunter, Laurens, SC:

Lucy PHELPS, b.1849 SC/SC/SC widowed
Alfred, son, b.1864 SC, laborer
James, son, b.1865 SC, laborer
Ann, dtr, b.1871 SC
Etta, dtr, b.1873 SC
Mattie, dtr, b.1875 SC
Bud/Benj*, son, b.1878 SC
Cora, dtr, b.1879 SC
Miles JONES, boarder, b.1830 SC/SC/SC
Source Citation: Roll: T9_1233; Family History Film: 1255233; Page: 143.1000; Enumeration District: 102.

Here's the family in the same location in 1870 with the father and older children:

James PHELPS, HOH, 1840 SC,
Lucy, wife, 1846 SC
Alford, son, 1865 SC
James, son, 1867 SC
Sallie, 1850 SC(sis-in-law of James Sr)
Roland, 1868 SC (son of Sallie)
Source Citation: Roll: M593_1501; Page: 49; Image: 99.

On July 14, 2008, you posted a response acknowledging that Herbert and Benj were, indeed brothers, making James and Lucy their parents: "

"THANK YOU GEORGE[IA] FOR THE INFO. I HAVE SOME OF WHAT YOU SENT AND YOU ARE RIGHR HURBERT AND BEN ARE BROTHERS..."

MARY

My response:

Did you find out later than James and Lucy were not Herbert's and Benj's parents?
