In Response To: [VA] ENGLISH FAMILY ()

Hi Toni,

My family of Englishes also originate from Bedford, Franklin,Pittslyvania and I think Campbell counties in Virginia. Although, the names that you have listed are not familiar to me right off and I don't have my records in front of me at this time, I think I can safely say that there is some kinship with most of the Englishes from this area. I am descended from an EDITH ENGLISH who was living in The Bedford County Staunton district, her daughter(or daughter in-law) was EMILY ENGLISH, Emily was married to Daniel English (although he was not listed with his famiy) and had according to the 1870 census five children, PRESTON(my g grandfather) Jane,Rose, Abram, and Daniel. Their owner during slavery was Abner Anthony. He was also a baptist preacher and eventually performed marriages of some Englishes and their prospective partners. Sometime before the 1880 census, this family moved over into Pittsylvania County in the Pigg River District area along with some members of the LEFTWICH family. My g-grand father Preston was married to Laura Leftwich. By the time the 1900 census was done they had moved back into Bedford County, Staunton District, the town was called Huddleston. the Englishes were associated with the THOMAS SLAVE CHAPEL CHURCH. There has been a significant effort to preserve this church. You should be able to find some info on this project over the net. Also, as part of the effort a lengthy genealogy has been pieced together on the families that were a part of this church. Marriage records, birth and death records. I have a copy and would be glad to share with you.
