Re: [NC] Death Certificates 1909-1975 online
In Response To: [NC] Death Certificates 1909-1975 online ()
I found lots of family connections and printed out about 100 certificates to match up with my tree. I think I've found the death certificate of my great great grandmother---the fist name and birth date is correct, but there is a different surname (people then married pretty frequently and although she'd reverted to the surname of her first husband after the death of her second husband, this appears to be a third husband, and she is buried under the name McMannen--her first husband, by her son). this death certificate lists Easter's father as Elsey Harris. Elsey Harris was Easter's slave holder and she lived in his household after the war until Elsey's death in 1872. She then moved in with her son Nathan and lived with him for most of the remainder of her life (between marriages). She is buried in the Turrentine cemetery with Nathan as Easter McMannen. Now I have to get to work to see if it IS her.
