In Response To: Re: [NC] simmons mullatoes north carolina ()
There are Mulatto Simmons in Sampson County, NC also. One of my best friends was a Simmons whom I graduated from high school with in 1959. They are very fair skinned people with light brown hair. They could also be mixed with the Indians (Native American), too. There were Cherokee Indians in that area also. Back the schools were segregated: schools for white, schools for Negroes and schools for Indians.
My point is that some Simmons resided in Sampson County as well as other counties.
My g grandparents were also Mulatto back in the early mid 1800s, too. That was not unusual because of slavery. The slave holder often had children by his slave or slaves women.
