Hi, Where in Virginia? Some counties have more info on-line than others. Of course I always go back and check out the Virginia Mailing list here. My best site in Virginia is The Library of Virginia. They have death records on line and I found several relatives' death certificates who died in in the early 1870's and 1880's. It's a bit hard to navigate, but well worth the effort. I found a transcription of an early African American Cemetery in Albemarle, VA and posted on the Afrigeneas Cemeteries Forum, just search my name, Lee Cook, and it'll pop up. In South Carolina, the Death Index is on-line from 1915-1950, It's easy to use and a goldmine if you have South Carolina connections. It's in the States and Main Forums here at Afrigeneas. A quick way to see what's already been posted here is to go into a Forum and do a search for the locality you are interested in. For instance, Lloyd Smith transcribed a shoe list for the Baskerville Slaves that is a wonderful resource. Go into the slaves forum and search "shoe list". Best Wishes with your search.
