Near Mayodan, Rockingham county,
Tuesday, an engine and six cars
loaded with coal were derailed and
rolled down a 30 foot embankment
into the pond of the Mayodan mills.
The accident was caused by a rock
which rolled from the hillside and
lodged on the railroad track. The
engineer was not hurt. The fireman
received slight injuries and Harvey
Coleman, a colored brakeman, was
killed.
