Re: [WV] Torrence-Tornes-Turns-Turner

I found another relative on that WV website. Robert Crews was the elder brother of Frank Crews. This is a hugh find because this is the first time that their father is mentioned by name. I was never able to find out who their father was until this point. Family members didn't want to talk about it. I think it was a sad situation.
The rumor is that Lillie Martin Crews was "married" to a white man who fathered all of her children. He either died or left, or maybe he left and wanted everyone to think he died.
Their father's name was Robert Crews so the first born son was named after his father.
My Great-uncle Robert was born in 1899, wow, I just thought about this. When I look at the 1900 census for Va Alleghany county, There are 2 Robert Crews in the area, 1 white, 1 black. The black Robert worked for the railroad, he and his brother Ezekiel. The white Robert worked for the paper mill in Pigeon Forge. The black Robert leaves the area while the white Robert gets married and settles down with his wife Patty.
Lot's of work to do.
