How was your holiday and how is your mother doing? Did you get out any? I have been housebound quite a bit as it's been well below zero here and people who know about cold do not recommend taking the baby out. I hope you've been able to get out and about and are not too stir-crazy.
I found an article about some doctors who founded West Adams Hospital with their own capitol. They were called "Negro," doctors in the Los Angeles Times article. I've looked up some phone numbers and they seem to be still around, some of them. one article on one of them said he was active in "Negroes for Nixon," an organization which would never have occurred to me. Whoo.
I've been reading a lot of Chester Himes. Have you ever heard of him? He wrote in the 1940's through the 1970's. I gather he was from Cleveland and spent some time in prison for armed robbery. His short stories are sometimes masterful, sometimes funny, sometimes so angry and trapped they are painful to read. He has a lot of compassion for all the people he writes about, even the horrible ones.
Anyway, thought I'd say hello again,
