[SC] BORDER CHANGES

I am trying to figure out the border changes between SC and NC. I found ancestor's in SC Johnston from 1870-1930. In 1870 Shaw's Creek was the name of the community in Edgefield. My grgrandma Adelaide Teague, bn abt 1820 SC, was in the same household with her children in 1870 but their surnames were VANCE. Adelaides parents were supposedly, according to census bn in VA. So maybe one of you can explain in layman's terms how border's changed or a possible migration pattern for my Teague/Vance folks.

I have already ordered and went trough all the microfilm for Inventories that involved these surnames. And believe me this was an expensive time consuming job. I have copies of any name that could be a part of the 1st name Adelaide, looking for grgrandma. Found names but nothing to definitely confirm this is grgrandma. Short on going to SC Archives, which this year is not an option, the only thing I can come up with is cohabitation records and according to FHL their microfilm is for NC, I don't don't where else to go. In their listing for NC there is a JOHNSTON City. Could it be one in the same place. In need of some inspiration.!!!
