Re: [VA] Virginia slaves & slaveholders

Hi,

Thanks so much for reminding me.

I have been so busy with my CHINN relatives in Rappahannock, I'm stuck on Mathews.

The runaway slave feels like it is right for the timeline but all of the Records that I have leave no clues. :)

Taliaferro must be related by marriage in some way but again, no clues as far as I'm able to tell. Emily lived with the Mathews family in either 1 or 2 Census years but she is not identified by relationship.

My family "history" by word of mouth by generations says that Bettie Mathews and her sister "Eliza" - were the daugthers of SUSAN MATHEWS. And " SUSAN" was from England or her Mother was from England.

No Census records indicate that at all. Everyone is Mother/Father born in VIRGINIA.

For sure my gg Bettie MATTHEWS MANNS died a natural death in Baltimore about 1908.

So, do I think they were slaves? YES! I have almost nailed it down to the RAPP family but no solid proof. :(

Thanks for inspiring me to keep looking! :)
