Re: [CA] Los Angeles black newspaper

West Adams is lovely, but for me, it's losing it's appeal as the homes become expensive and the old families move out. Lynn Shiflett died last year and her mother a month or so ago. Our adopted family (our ex-neighbor's) children have moved to Lancaster and Palmdale, though they still come home for family events. And unfortunately, they are renters. You're right about the prices of the houses: a one-story a block from where we used to live is on the market for 800,000. Yet there was a murder around the corner last year, though they think it wasn't gang related, and when we left three-and-a-half years ago, on the day, literally, when we moved away, my then two-year-old and husband saw a gang-beating shooting. It's nuts.
Thank you so much for your response to my question about the Sentinel Offices. I hate to ask, but if you have a few moments, could you describe the office to me and the receptionist, etc.? Like when you walk in, do you walk past a courtyard with palm trees and is the office sort of non-descript brown paneling or is it fancy or what? And was the receptionist young/old,female/male/pleasant/unpleasant/had fancy fingernails or plain hair or lots of flowers or photos of their beloved dog? Something human like that? I know, I know, if I'm writing, I'm supposed to be able to make stuff like that up. Sigh.
I'll call their offices, hopefully, tomorrow. The car's going to the shop and a cousin just died. The funeral is Tuesday; the second in two weeks. A rough, rough time.
