The power of AfriGeneas and networking is a wonder to behold.
With the help of Vicky & E.T. and Afrigeneas Chat Room friends I now have a more complete picture of my 2nd great-grandfather, William Adams.
After locating him in the 1870 Census for California (Sacramento County) I was diredted to the newspaper 'Sacramento Daily Union' where he is listed in 1870 & 1871. Vicky then directed me to the 1868 Sacramento City & County Directory where he is listed by address, race & occupation. E.T. then introduced me to a Sacramento native who has done extensive work on the AA community there.
My new friend furnished information on his death date, cause of death (diabetic) and burial location. She also has information on St. Andrews A.M.E. church and its founding in the 1850's. The parents and grandparents of William Adams,.... Lewis & Susan Adams, Francis & Rachel Reno.... were charter members of St. Paul A.M.E. church in Urbana, Ohio in (1824). William was born in Urbana, Ohio on 7 Jan 1818 and died in Sacramento, CA 25 Aug 1871. So there is even the possibilty of a church connection during his period in Sacramento...
So I say THANK YOU to Vicky, E.T., Mrs. Thames and my AfriGeneas Family.......
p.s. Vicky is located in AZ, E.T. & Mrs. Thames are in CA and I am in OH.
