[LA] Plaisance Louisana
Is there any research being done on Plaisance Louisiana? My mother was 5th generation born ( on both her father & mother side ) in the area. Plaisance was at one time a large farming community in St. Landry Parish that had a sizable number of blacks that owned large tracks of land & livestock, before, during, & after the civil war. Many of the blacks still own land. The school in Plaisance was built by the blacks in the community & was later turned over to the Parish to run. Rosenwall later donated money to the school finances. It is now listed as one of the few remaining Rosenwall funded schools in the state. There was a horse race track in the community that was owned by some local whites, but had black jockies.
