Requesting a photocopy of a driver's license is the norm since 9/11. Have you tried the Texas Online website ? You're outside of the 75 year protected window. I don't see that they require a copy of your DL but they do require the number. I tried it with a random 1922 birth I got from ancestry.com and used unknown for the parents names.
