Re: [LA] MARSHALL
In Response To: [LA] MARSHALL ()

Betty,

I'm usually very skeptical about any information I find on a death certificates. Also, I try to not skip over long time periods of time and distances in tracing people. I would keep my focus on Pulaski County, IL until I got some credible information about where they were just prior to coming to Pulaski county. I would recommend continuing to focus on getting a record of their marriage. I saw where you wrote to IRAD but have you contacted Pulaski county directly? Do you know about Deb Davis ? She is an African-American Genealogy Reseacher in Pulaski County and has a terrific website. Have you attempted to get her to assist you in finding and Pulaski County records ? I'd also recommend doing some historical readings as well. Try to understand why so many former slaves came to Pulaski County just after the Civil War. For example in some of my recent research, I had a family that appeared to scatter across the country but upon further examination, they all went to coal mining towns.
