State releases Florida Black Heritage Trail Guide
TAMPA – The third edition of the Florida Black Heritage Trail guide is now available. The guide features 64 pages of historic black American sites from Pensacola to Key West and includes profiles and biographical sketches of many distinguished and accomplished black Floridians.
“The Florida Black Heritage Trail guide beautifully highlights the cultural and historical contributions African-Americans have made to the development of our state,” said Lt. Gov. Kottkamp. “Gov. Crist and I are grateful to Visit Florida, the Department of State and the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network for their hard work to create and maintain this valuable resource.”
Research by Visit Florida, the state’s public-private tourism promoter, shows that in 2005, Florida had more than 2.6 million black visitors. Of those, 50 percent participated in culturally based activities.
